What’s Julie working on?
Posted by Julie at 5:56 pm in Cross Stitch Blog

I have just started a new cross stitch project.  I decided to do the pattern“Love Laundry”  by Raise the Roof Deisgns.  I am going to frame it when finished and hang it in my bathroom.  Very cute.  I am doing it on a Picture this Plus Opalescent hand dyed fabric in Chablis, in 28 count Cashel fabric.  I chose my own buttons from Debbie Mum.  I am using Week Dye Works floss as well.  It’s going to be a gorgeous picture when I am finished and I will post it on my website, in my blog and in a news letter.

Fabric Swatches from Julie’s Cross Stitch
Posted by Julie at 10:22 pm in Cross Stitch Blog

Have you ever wanted to try out a new fabric, but just weren’t sure about which one to try and if it would work for the project you have in mind?  We have come up with a way to solve that problem at Julie’s Cross Stitch.  You can now purchase 2 x 4 inch swatches of all of the different kinds for fabrics we sell for just a $1 a piece.  After you make your purchase, we will send it a white swatch of  the  fabric of your  choice     in the mail that you can use to compare the textures.  Here is a list of all the fabric swatches we have so far.  Swatch section

I have some suggestions for people that want to venture out to some differnt fabrics rather than using their old favorite type of fabric.  If you like 11 ccout Aida, why don’t you try 10 count Tula some time.  Tula is very similar to Aida, it is just softer and smoother.

11 ct Aida

10 ct Tula

If you like Linen, why don’t you try a Jobelan or Lugana fabric.  They are sewn the same way as you sew a linen.  2 over 2.  Jobelan and Lugana are even weave fabrics.

Linen 32 count

Jobelan 28 count

Lugana 25 count

MD101-Circle of Friends by Mirabilia
Posted by Julie at 4:55 pm in Cross Stitch Blog

Mirabilia just released a great new counted cross stitch  pattern called Circle of Friends.

The fabric used for the model is 32 count Coffee Bean Linen.

Mirabilia patterns are designed by an artist named Nora Corbett in Ohio.  She creates original water color paintings and turns them into cross stitch patterns.  Her subjects are generally angels, mermaids, queens, fairies, mothers and lovers along with timeless women.  Mirabilia is one of my favorite line of patterns.  They are generally quality pattern that often use beading and metallic threads to highlight the design.  I carry all of the Mirabilia patterns that are available at Julie’s X Stitch.

If you are into collecting, Mirabilia makes a line of “Holiday Fairie” kits that include fabric and all the supplies you will need to complete the project including quality linen fabric.  She also has a line of “Christmas Trees” every year for Christmas that include all the beads and treasures you will need to complete the piece.

Flight Of The Lynx

Artwork by Josephine Wall. Finished design size is 475w X 356h. Stitched on 25ct fabric.

Heaven and Earth Designs was created by Michele Sayetta and her husband Bob.  They previously owned a hand dyed fabric shop, but decided to switch to cross stitch patterns.  They chart the artwork of many talented designers into counted cross stitch designs.  Their designs are not computer generated.  They graph each image using engineering software  Their designs are very intricate.  They suggest you stitch them on 25 count Lugana or Dublin over one to preserve the detail.  Their designs have a “fantasy” feel to them.  Some of my favorite designs by Heaven and Earth are  “Queen of Hearts” , “Spirit of Winter” , and “Cinderella’s Ball”.

Fabric Suggestions

To keep the detail of these designs we are recommending they be stitched on 25ct fabric in either Dublin or Lugana. We have done test stitching on almost all of this artwork so please be assured that your finished result will be a true work of art. All design dimensions are for 25ct over 1.
