A friend and pattern designer has created a pattern as a tribute to family, and friends with breast cancer.
By Glendon Place
A tribute to breast cancer survivors and others affected by this life-threatening disease. A percentage of the proceeds from the sale of each chart will be donated to the National Breast Cancer Foundation. More than 80% of all donations to NBCF go to programs that benefit women through free mammograms for the needy, breast cancer awareness campaigns, and breast cancer research projects. By supporting the cause, you give every woman hope. And with hope, anything is possible. Stitched on 28ct Water Lily Jobelan. Requires 6 colors of Anchor/DMC floss and 3 colors of Caron Waterlilies (12-strand silk). Stitch Count: 68w X 176h.
Designer of the Month..
Rosewood Manor Designs. I formed my company Rosewood Manor in 1998 while we were living in Maryland and started publishing my own charts. Karen became interested in counted cross stitch in the mid 1970’s while employed by Better Homes and Gardens. Although I had always embroidered, I had never worked in counted cross-stitch. Once I learned how to cross-stitch I was hooked and soon began to design my own charts. I am inspired by my surroundings, quilt blocks and Mother Nature when creating my designs. Whether I am designing or stitching, I create designs that I enjoy and hope, you, my customer will “ENJOY! and “BE CREATIVE!” Some of my favorite designs by Karen are “Inspiration” (30 pgs), and “And A Garden Grew”.

When I was in my early 20’s my Grandmother taught me to cross stitch. She bought me my very first kit. I believe it was a Dimensions kit and she helped me seperate out all of the floss and find the center of the linen fabric and taught me how to sew it like a tick-tac-toe grid. I made many mistakes, but I finished it. It was a picutre of a carousel horse. My very first cross stitch project. I still have it in a closet to this day.
My next project was much neater. It was also a Dimensions kit. This time the fabric was Aida and it was much easier to use. It wasn’t long and I was hooked….
I just finished “Love Laundry” by Raise the Roof Designs. We are in the process of framing it ourselves and it is going to hang on my bathroom wall. It was a fun project.
Currently, I am getting all of my supplies together to complete Mirabilia’s newest counted cross stitch pattern, “Circle of Friends”. It is a great one and different from many of her other patterns. I have decided to use the 32 count Coffee Bean Linen that the pattern suggests. It is a great color and matches the theme of my livingroom. I plan to have it framed and hang it in the livingroom.

Two new designs in counted cross stitch were just released by Nora Corbett in her Spring Garden-Pixie Couture Collection. Both have beautiful blues and purples in them.

Here are some of my favorite counted cross stitch patterns from Mystic Stitches most resent releases. Mystic Stitch patterns are very intricate with a lot of detail. They suggest several different counts of Aida fabric to stitch their patterns on. The smaller the count (example 20 count) the more detail that is preserved. It is also acceptable to use a count as large as 14 count and still have a beautiful piece when it is completed. Mystic Stitch patterns generally use DMC floss and don’t usually call for beads, special floss or metallic threads. We are always happy to help you create a kit out of any pattern at Julie’s Cross Stitch. Orders over $50 are shipped for free.
