We are creating a new section on our website devoted exclusively to Hardanger.  Here is a link to what we have done so far.  There are several kits and patterns for Hardanger.   We will also be creating a new tips section for Hardanger.  Hardanger is a traditional Norwegian method of embroidery.  It is a very unique look.  I am just getting started learning how to do Hardanger myself and it is a lot of fun.

  • Blackwork, a Traditional Cross Stitch Method

Date: 2011.05.25 | Category: Cross Stitch Blog | Response: 0

Blackwork is a traditional method of cross stitch that is worked on a white linen fabric with a black thread.  Originally it was worked using black sheeps wool.  No other color was added to the design.  For a more modern twist on blackwork, you can us a colored floss to replace the black.   This type of design  is also referred to as a silhouette.   If you like to carry your work with you and don’t want to bring a lot of supplies with you, this is a great compromise.  You only have to carry one type of floss, your fabric, a needle and scissors (a hoop if you use one).

There are two new counted cross stitch patterns out by Nora Corbett.  One from her Muse collection called Melody (NC155).  I love the colors in this one.  Pink and red.  The other pattern is from her Snow Globe collection and it is called “Little Snowy Green Cottage.“(NC160).  They both have embellishment packs that you can purchase separately.   Melody calls for 16 count Aida or 32 count Linen from the Hand Picked by Nora fabrics in Sea Lily.  Little Snowy Green Cottage calls for Sea Spray in 32 ct Linen or 16 count Aida.
