Great  gift idea for the cross stitcher in your life.  GIFT CERTIFICATES  from Julie's X Stitch.  If you don't know what she would like, let her decide for herself with a gift certificate.

How did you Learn to Cross Stitch?

When I was about 19, my Grandmother bought me a cross stitch kit and taught me how to cross stitch.  She was the quintessential grandmother who baked fresh bread, made her own jam and sewed.  My grandmother is almost 95 years old now and I have many great memories from when I was younger, but the one thing I will always remember is when she taught me how to cross  stitch.  Who taught you to cross stitch?  Send me an e-mail and tell me about it.  Maybe I will use your story in a future newsletter.

 Cross Stitch Tip

Measuring your fabric is an important part to starting your project.  You don't want to cut a piece too small and find out after weeks of stitching.  First you must figure out the stitch count of your design vertically and horizontally.  Most patterns will supply this information in the directions.  Then you must decide count of fabric you want to use.  Lets assume you want to do you project on a 14 count Aida or a 28 count Linen.  When stitching on Linen, you stitch over two threads, so the count of your fabric would be half of 28.   (28/2=14)  Now divide the stitch count of your pattern by the count of your fabric.  Stitch count of 112x280 would give you a design size of 8 inches by 20 inches.  112/14=8 and 280/14=20.  Don't forget to add 6 inches to each direction for framing.
